Our mission

The industrial and buildings sectors account for two-thirds of total final energy consumption in Germany. Both sectors harbour untapped potential for improving energy efficiency. Digital technologies are a key factor in realising this potential. They make it possible to record, analyse and optimise processes in detail. The potential savings are estimated at up to 30 per cent.

With the KEDi, dena has established a nationwide central point of contact in Halle (Saale). The centre of excellence empowers market players in the industrial and building sectors to use digital technologies to improve energy efficiency. The KEDi brings together knowledge, experience and ideas to boost energy efficiency through digitalisation. The KEDi Advisory Board provides expert guidance on the centre’s work and contributes diverse perspectives from relevant fields.

Our approach

The centre of excellence focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises in industry and the construction sector. Together with its partners, KEDi raises awareness of digital solutions. It develops information resources, promotes dialogue between the various stakeholder groups and supports the development of expertise within the market. KEDi also provides support for policy-making processes.

Our milestones

August 2026: The KEDi Roadshow has already made eight stops across the country.
June 2026: Launch of the KEDi SME demonstrator e2d2
May 2025: 1st KEDi Convention with over 170 participants from politics, academia and business
May 2025: Launch of the KEDi EMS Finder
April 2025: Launch of the DEEP building demonstrator
May 2023: Grand opening of the KEDi in Halle (Saale)
