The dena monitoring report provides an insight into the development of new registrations of cars with alternative drive systems in Germany. Key developments in 2023:

  • At 1.38 million vehicles, almost half of all new registrations in 2023 had a hybrid, fully electric or fuel cell-based drive system.
  • Alternative drive types achieved an increase of 5 per cent compared to the previous year. However, the pace of market development has slowed compared to the growth of 17 per cent seen in 2022.
  • Although registrations of electric cars rose in 2023 despite the discontinuation of federal subsidy measures, they only took second place among alternative drive systems behind hybrids.
