Information platform for ‘Alternativ Mobil’ (Alternatives for Mobility)

Platform with comprehensive information on alternative drives and fuels as well as other topics relating to the mobility transition

Our mission

The transition from vehicles running on fossil fuels to those with alternative drive types is of central importance if we plan to achieve the energy transition and climate protection targets in the transport sector. Since 2011, dena has been supporting the further development and communication of the labelling system for passenger cars, which was updated in the course of the amended German Passenger Car Energy Consumption Labelling Act in 2024.

As a result, manufacturers and car dealers must comply with various labelling obligations at the point of sale. Similar to the energy efficiency label for household appliances, the labelling system provides information on the energy consumption and carbon emissions of new cars. Consumers can see at a glance how efficient, low-emission and climate-friendly a car is compared to other vehicles.

Our approach

The website has served as a central information platform for car dealers and manufacturers on the subject of labelling system for passenger cars for many years. dena uses it to provide comprehensive information on alternative drive systems in motor vehicles, alternative fuels and other topics relating to the mobility of the future.

Car dealers have the opportunity to create a label and an information sign for a passenger car, as well as to find out about the current legal requirements of the Passenger Car Energy Consumption Labelling Act. Consumers will find information on alternative drive systems enabling them to make informed purchasing decisions. The platform also offers an interactive tool that prospective buyers can use to compare the estimated energy costs of different types of drives.

Our milestones

  • 2024: the platform will play a central role in the amendment of the German Passenger Car Energy Consumption Labelling Act in May 2024, for example, in enabling car dealerships throughout Germany to quickly fulfil the new requirements.
  • 2024: the cost calculator provides prospective car buyers with transparent information on the likely costs of a combustion engine compared to a battery-powered electric vehicle, especially in the context of rising carbon costs for fossil fuels.
