A smart meter – also known as an intelligent metering system (iMSys) – is an electricity meter that records energy consumption in real time and transmits it digitally. A smart meter enables more precise and timely recording of electricity consumption in contrast to conventional analogue meters. This offers numerous advantages for both end users and energy suppliers. The dossier offers an introduction to the topic of smart meters, provides information on the basics and added value as well as the smart meter rollout process.
