The German-Uzbek Energy Dialogue

Cross-border cooperation for the transformation of energy systems

Dorut-Tilovat-Komplex in Usbekistan

Our mission

Uzbekistan adopted the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy in 2022. It aims to systematically integrate the country into the global economy and open Uzbekistan up to international cooperation and foreign investment. Uzbekistan ratified the Paris Agreement in 2018. And back in 2019, a strategy for the country’s transition to a green economy was presented.

The development of ‘green skills’ along the entire value chain is necessary to achieve its goals. According to estimates, Uzbekistan will need more than 100,000 new green jobs. In turn, the ambitious savings and substitution targets for gas are fuelling demand for technologies and concepts that replace or reduce gas consumption in the end consumer sectors. The demand for energy efficiency measures is also increasing.

Our approach

Based on these trends, three key topics were identified:

  • Green skills and capacity building for the energy transition
  • Electrification of cities and reduction of gas consumption at neighbourhood, municipal and city level
  • Energy efficiency in buildings

Seminars, bilateral talks, training courses and fact-finding missions are held in order to foster the transfer of knowledge and experience through dialogue. As part of these activities, dena develops recommendations for action, for example, to improve energy efficiency in the building sector or to reduce gas consumption at neighbourhood, municipal and city level.

The energy dialogue supports national energy saving targets with the development of a comprehensive concept for gas-free cities, which deals with the reduction of gas and energy consumption at neighbourhood, municipal and city level.

Our milestones

2023: a concept for a further education and training centre for energy efficiency and renewable energies was developed in 2023 based on the need for qualified specialists in the field of the green economy. It will become a platform for the transfer of experience and knowledge and is also intended to attract interested participants from other Central Asian countries in the future.
