System Stability Roadmap
A transformation pathway to secure and robust system operation with 100 per cent renewable energies

Goal: to lay the foundations for a sustainable energy system and address the challenges for the stable operation of grids with 100 per cent renewable energies
Topics: Renewable energies, Overall system, Infrastructure, Generating and distributing energy
Runtime: 2022 until the end of 2024
Our mission
The aim of the project agreed in the coalition agreement in 2021 was to lay the foundations for a sustainable energy system. More specifically, the idea was to address the challenges for the stable operation of electricity grids with 100 per cent renewable energies. The challenges are mainly the result of the increasing share of power-electronic feed-in to the grid and the simultaneous phase-out of large controllable power plants. In terms of the procedures, the idea was to show ‘who does what and when?’The roadmap was adopted by the German government in December 2023. The project steering group (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Federal Network Agency, dena, ef.Ruhr) and the stakeholder group continued their work without interruption in order to implement the identified processes.
Our milestones
- April 2024: the completion of the creation of the roadmap and the start of its implementation were celebrated with the industry as part of the Roadmap Conference at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action
- December 2023: roadmap adopted by the German government
