dena’s Centre of Expertise for Serial Refurbishment is developing a new market for scalable refurbishment solutions for existing buildings on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. It is a part of the international Energiesprong initiative and initiates, coordinates and supports the development of serial refurbishment solutions.
To this end, it brings together the innovative forces in the industry. The aim is to jointly develop new refurbishment solutions for different types of buildings, establish them in Germany and thus in turn promote climate protection.
Serial refurbishment based on the Energiesprong concept is a new method for the energy-efficiency refurbishment of buildings. It is based on digitalised construction processes, prefabricated elements for façades, rooftop photovoltaic systems and energy modules, an innovative financing model and a strong user focus. The aim is to refurbish buildings within a few weeks at an affordable cost, to achieve climate-neutral standards and to make refurbishments attractive for everyone involved.
Our approach: support in all aspects of serial refurbishment
The market development team consists of experts from dena and other industry experts. Together, they contribute interdisciplinary expertise and experience in order to complete serial refurbishment projects as quickly as possible.
The team provides support in all aspects of serial refurbishment:
Choice of building
Development of design concepts
Consulting on subsidies
Portfolio analyses
Implementation of pilot projects
Product development
Reduction of regulatory barriers
Regular workshops, funding talks, day trips to serial refurbishment projects and networking events offer valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge, network and develop new ideas.
dena started the market development for serial refurbishments in Germany in 2017 basically from scratch. In the meantime, there is a great deal of momentum:
Active pioneer network with more than 400 companies
2024: nearly 70 projects (apartment buildings, detached single-family houses, non-residential buildings) completed, 30 under construction, 180 – including around 11,000 residential units – in planning & preparation
2023: start of the ‘SerSan-Bonus’ subsidy in the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings programme
2019: first Energiesprong pilot project in Germany
The Energiesprong initiative has also received prestigious awards such as the World Habitat Award.
