Roll-out and system integration of large-scale heat pumps
Cooperation project for the introduction and system integration of large heat pumps
Goal: Expansion of the website https://grosswaermepumpen-info.de/ through studies and guidelines as well as communication at events
Topics: Renewable energies, Overall system, Heating transition, Generating and distributing energy
Runtime: 2026 - 2027
Our task: Introduction and system integration of large heat pumps
By combining Danish experience with German needs, the "Roll-Out and System Integration of Large-Scale Heat Pumps" project creates a unique platform for knowledge transfer, market development and bilateral cooperation.
The project offers many advantages: It
- provides German district heating network and plant operators with practical tools,
- opens up new markets for Danish solutions and
- strengthens the strategic partnership between Germany and Denmark.
dena supports the in-depth technical work of its partners flex4grid, Fraunhofer IEG, the State Energy Agency of Hesse and the Danish Embassy in Berlin through the following activities:
- Conducting a market analysis in Germany and Denmark
- Preparing and disseminating the results of the market analysis
- Establishing a network
- Conducting workshops, online seminars and stakeholder events, and
- Preparing these results for stakeholders from industry and politics.
Our approach: knowledge building and public relations work for the ramp-up of large heat pumps
- Knowledge building: Despite ambitious decarbonisation targets, the heat transition in Germany is still in its infancy. Only around 22% of district heating supply is currently based on renewable energies. Large heat pumps are the key to efficient and clean heat supply for district heating networks and industry. With this project, dena and its project partners are making a decisive contribution to ensuring that users have the information they need to switch to electric heat generation and can move forward with implementation.
- Public relations: Continuous monitoring of the analyses through exchange formats and publications disseminates the results widely and ensures that they are linked back to practical needs. By involving political decision-makers, regulatory and financial challenges can be addressed in addition to technological ones.
Our milestones:
- 2026: Conducting a market survey
- 2026: Publication of a policy paper and guidelines
- 2026: Development of standard use cases for large heat pumps
- 2026/2027: Preparation of case studies and best practice examples
- Throughout the project: Public relations work and events
