Hydrogen: The Living Labs for the Energy Transition (Reallabore der Energiewende) transfer project

dena, together with Trans4ReaL, is networking players from living labs with researchers on hydrogen and the hydrogen industry

Our mission

The hydrogen living labs for the energy transition bridge a gap between applied research and the development of marketable hydrogen technologies. They test hydrogen technologies that make a valuable contribution to climate neutrality under real-world conditions and on an industrial scale. The technologies trialled in the living labs and the knowledge gained over the project term cover the entire hydrogen value chain. dena’s task is to network relevant stakeholders from research and industry. In addition, dena makes the findings from the living labs available to the professional public and analyses them.

The living labs and transfer research are funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (BMWK)

Our approach

dena designs and plans dialogue and specialist events in different regions with a focus on current topics, together with the Trans4ReaL research consortium, through which dena can ensure the exchange of knowledge. It also offers stakeholders involved in research and real-world applications the opportunity to participate and exchange ideas. The focus here is on common challenges and synergies from the projects.

The findings from the living labs and transfer research are regularly analysed and discussed in the ‘Wissen schafft Energie’ (Knowledge creates energy) podcast. In this manner, dena contributes to the transparency of research results and transfers the knowledge generated to the ensuing social discourse on the energy transition, climate protection and energy security.

Our milestones

  • 7 December 2023: second Rhine-Ruhr Regional Conference – on the transformation of the industry, aiming to build a strong region focussing on hydrogen-based steelmaking projects and trailblazers that want to produce green steel and hydrogen in the Ruhr region
  • 18 April 2023: first Hydrogen Transfer Congress – highlights from the living labs in Berlin with insights into current projects and workshops on hydrogen regulation, defossilisation of the industry and participations
