EnviTec Biogas sees biomethane market on the upswing across Europe, also due to coalition agreement

EnviTec Biogas sees great growth potential in the biomethane market, fuelled by the EU's REPowerEU plan and the new coalition agreement in Germany. The company is investing around EUR 200 million in the expansion of its plants and is increasing biomethane production to 400 GWh per year. According to EnviTec, biomethane offers a wide range of opportunities to replace fossil natural gas, particularly in the heating and fuel sectors and in industry. EnviTec is now calling for decisive political action to support the energy transition in order to further develop the market.

HEAT

enercity plans heat transition with biomethane CHP in Hanover

By 2027, the energy supplier enercity will replace its coal-fired power plant in Hanover-Stöcken with two state-of-the-art biomethane CHP plants, each with an output of 20 MW - the largest of their kind in Germany. The plants were built at a cost of around EUR 55 million, achieve an overall efficiency of over 90% and enable a flexible, demand-driven supply of electricity and heat. In future, the system will be supplemented by a 60 MW river water heat pump in Hanover-Herrenhausen. In this way, enercity is making a key contribution to the coal phase-out and the heat transition in the region.

Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg puts its first biomethane CHP plant into operation

Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim (SWLB) has commissioned the first of two biomethane cogeneration plants at its new Waldäcker III energy center; the second will follow in mid-April. The plant will generate around 39 million kWh of electricity and 54 million kWh of heat per year - up to 90% of which will come from renewable energies. This will increase the proportion of renewable heat in the Ludwigsburg grid from 51% to 74% and save 13,000 tons of CO₂ per year. Full commissioning and official opening is planned for May.
