The Study Module Buildings examines which measures are expedient for the building envelope and construction technology, and which are necessary for an integrated energy transition. At the same time, the module also serves to determine which degree of energy efficiency and renewable energy achieves the best economic results for the building sector while also taking into account all investment and subsequent costs. For this purpose, aspects ranging from realistic transformation paths of the energy sources to a CO2-neutral energy supply are examined. The influence of energy prices and possible price or quantity controls are also considered. Key questions of the module include:
- What does the development of the energy mix in the building sector look like?
- Which measures need to be introduced in both new and existing buildings in order to achieve the heating transition targets?
This Module also attempts to comprehensively analyse the building stock in Germany consisting of residential and non-residential buildings, including scenarios for demolition, new buildings, and refurbishment. The goal is to calculate key metrics for the development of the existing buildings for residential units, floor space, energy requirements, and CO2-emissions in order to represent the effects on the overall system.
