Module: Mobility

What does the schedule for the phaseout of fossil fuels in the transport sector look like? From when will the development of an independent hydrogen infrastructure be necessary? Which future role will refineries play in the production of energy sources?

The Study Module Mobility investigates the development of overall traffic capacity, energy requirements and sources, as well as the required infrastructures. These elements and their categorisation will be analysed according to the development paths pursued — i.e. electromobility or natural-gas-based mobility — and the individual means of transportation, respectively.

A key question here is the schedule to phase out fossil fuels in the transport sector in terms of the intermediate steps up to 2050. The topic of system compatibility will also be covered in the module Mobility, for example the contribution of vehicle batteries to compensate for peak loads. With regard to infrastructure, the module Mobility focuses on questions such as: From when will the development of an independent hydrogen infrastructure be necessary? What future role will refineries play in the production of energy sources based on fossil and renewable sources for mobility, heating, and use in materials?
