Berlin, 21 September 2022. This year's SET Tech Festival, which was held on Tuesday under the motto "Stories of Energy Transition", brought together numerous international start-ups, the energy industry, investors, researchers and political actors. More than 65 young companies from the energy sector had the opportunity to present their innovations and to gain traction towards the global energy transition. During the evening Award Ceremony, a total of five out of fifteen finalists were awarded in the following categories: Clean Energy Generation, Demand-side Innovation, Energy Distribution & Storage, Smart Mobility & Transportation and Quality Access & SDG-7.
Andreas Kuhlmann, Chairman of dena's Executive Board, said: "These great examples of smart energy solutions make me optimistic about the future, despite the current crises. There are so many good ideas on how we can become independent of fossil fuels and transform our global energy system. Now we need to implement them as quickly as possible. We are doing our part with SET, together with the World Energy Council, by bringing start-ups together with funders and established companies to turn original ideas into reality."
The Winners of the 2022 SET Awards
The 15 SET finalists, selected from over 360 applications from 69 countries in spring 2022, presented their ideas to an international jury of experts at the SET Tech Festival. The five winning start-ups were announced live from the Heeresbäckerei during the SET Award Ceremony:

About Start-Up Energy Transition (SET)
SET is a global innovation platform founded in 2016 by the German Energy Agency (dena) in cooperation with the World Energy Council (WEC) and with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The initiative identifies leading start-ups in the fields of energy transition and climate protection and connects them with companies, investors as well as other start-ups. At its core, the SET platform consists of three pillars: the SET Award, the SET Tech Festival and the SET Newsroom. The SET Award is an annual competition for innovative start-ups. In addition, the initiative offers start-ups from all over the world a platform to present themselves: The Global Innovation Platform. The SET network now counts more than 500 innovative start-ups from all over the world and over 40 global partners. Further information at: https://www.startup-energy-transition.com/
Vorteil Tempo: Campaign to faster transformation
The current supply crisis makes it clear how important the energy transition is, also for security policy reasons. In addition to the long-term task of climate neutrality, Germany must acutely strengthen its energy security. The advantage is that both goals can be achieved by quickly moving away from fossil fuels. Germany can use the increased pressure to act to accelerate the transformation. The key levers, effective measures and dena projects and publications are now available at www.dena.de/vorteiltempo.
