Repeated acts of sabotage on gas, electricity and data lines in the Baltic Sea, coupled with an increasing number of cyberattacks on energy suppliers, have made the protection of critical infrastructure one of the most pressing issues in energy security. Webinar on Energy Communities in Poland

On 20 November 2024, the German-Polish Energy Platform presented a new handout on the establishment of Energy Communities in Poland during a webinar. Anna Wasielewski, Project Manager at dena, presented the activities of the project launched in 2021 to around 60 participants from Polish cities, municipalities and companies. Paweł Gilewski, project manager at KAPE, and Anna Piórkowska, energy community expert at KAPE, gave an overview of the legal framework for energy communities in Poland and presented inspiring examples from the field.

33rd Karpacz Economic Forum 2024

From 3 to 5 September 2024, the 33rd Economic Forum took place in Karpacz, Poland, the largest conference in Central and Eastern Europe with over 6,000 participants. Themed 'The Time of New Leaders: Shaping the Future Together', the participants discussed issues of security, economic development prospects and current challenges. In this context, dena had the opportunity to present the German-Polish Energy Platform to a broad audience.

EU Commission supports district heating

The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has given the green light for the financing of the cross-border project UNITED HEAT in the Euro City Görlitz/Zgorzelec. The EU funding will cover planning costs for the overall project and the construction of initial facilities such as a biomass heating plant in Zgorzelec, part of the connecting pipeline between the Görlitz Königshufen cogeneration plant and the Görlitz wastewater treatment plant, as well as the integration and expansion of sewage gas storage facilities. The successful implementation of the overall project is subject to the approval of the application for the federal subsidy for efficient heat networks (BEW) by the Federal Office of Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). Further investments and applications are planned for the coming months and years.

Germany and Poland are continuing their bilateral dialogue to jointly tackle the challenges of the energy transition. At the 2nd German-Polish Forum on Energy Transition in Berlin, representatives from politics, business and civil society shared their perspectives to develop concrete steps for a sustainable energy future. The Forum paves the way for closer German-Polish cooperation and gives new impetus to the energy transition in Europe.

Together with the Polish think tank WiseEuropa, the German-Polish Energy Platform has published a comparative study on Energy Communities, which compares existing concepts, solutions and business models in both countries and presents examples of best practice.

German-Polish cooperation agreement signed

The energy transition cannot succeed without European cooperation. With this in mind, the Polish National Energy Saving Agency (KAPE) and the German Energy Agency (dena) have signed a cooperation agreement. Through the German-Polish Energy Platform, they are promoting the exchange of experience and the joint development and implementation of energy system transformation projects in the border region.
