33rd Karpacz Economic Forum 2024
From 3 to 5 September 2024, the 33rd Economic Forum took place in Karpacz, Poland, the largest conference in Central and Eastern Europe with over 6,000 participants. Themed 'The Time of New Leaders: Shaping the Future Together', the participants discussed issues of security, economic development prospects and current challenges. In this context, dena had the opportunity to present the German-Polish Energy Platform to a broad audience.
This year, over 6,000 decision-makers from politics, companies and other institutions in Eastern and Central Europe came together to discuss future developments in Europe and the world, taking part in over 500 discussion formats over the course of three days. The German Pavilion of the AHK Poland also provided a space for discussions on concrete opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Poland and Germany.
Nargis Wieck (Head of the International Cooperation Unit) and Anna Wasielewski (Project Manager at dena) presented the activities of the German-Polish Energy Platform and exchanged ideas with partners, establishing new contacts with political, business and civil society figures.
As a panellist on the panel ‘Electromobility - dead end or motorway of change’, Nargis Wieck gave an overview of the current status of electromobility in Germany and the potential for cross-border cooperation. She discussed the challenges of expanding the charging infrastructure and grid integration, emphasising that close cooperation between Germany and Poland is crucial for decarbonising the transport sector and achieving the EU's climate targets.
In the panel discussion on just transition in coal regions, dena's contribution was an important one, sharing Germany's experience with the coal phase-out and possible impulses for other regions. Nargis Wieck cited the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, particularly at a municipal and local level, as well as funding that is tailored to respective needs, as success factors for a just transition.
The conference was organised by the 'Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies' in Warsaw, in cooperation with other partners. Further information is available on the website: https://www.forum-ekonomiczne.pl/en .
