Digitisation, decentralisation and participation are central building blocks for the sustainable transformation of our energy system. Energy communities in particular exhibit all these features.
The analysis shows how these communities in their diverse constellations can advance the decentralised energy transition. Digital technologies will make peer-to-peer energy trading, collective self-consumption and other decentralized business models economically viable. The analysis also shows how this can be achieved using examples from the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain.
