Event Announcement: “Energy without Borders” on September 24 in Berlin
Approximately one-third of the EU population and GDP is based in European border regions. Overcoming cross-border obstacles could unlock socio-economic benefits for these regions.
Both the EU and countries such as Germany, France, and Poland aim to support the development of cross-border energy projects. These projects contribute to the energy transition by promoting the expansion and integration of renewable energy sources across borders in both the electricity and heating sectors. However, complex project development processes, inconsistent regulatory frameworks, and complicated financing structures often slow down or prevent implementation.
At the “Energy without Borders” event, we want to highlight this potential and identify areas for action. The focus will be on innovative projects and policy approaches that enable and promote cross-border cooperation in the field of renewable energy. Project developers, representatives from European and national institutions, as well as experts in cross-border cooperation will all have a voice in the discussion.
The program includes:
- Presentation of best-practice lighthouse projects
- Panel discussions with project developers, experts, funding bodies, and policymakers
- A pitch session for new project ideas
- Exchange on existing and needed political and financial instruments
Confirmed speakers include:
- Jean-Pierre Halkin, DG REGIO, European Commission
- Gianluca Ferreri, CEF Energy, CINEA
- Cathrin Gräber, General Secretry, German-French Committee for Cross-Border Cooperation
- Dr. Andrzej Ancygier, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
- Marcus Hicken, Director, Federal Foreign Office
Following the event, there will be an informal networking reception. Please find the current agenda here.
The event language is English.
