Analysis of Energy Communities published

The German-Polish Energy Platform and WiseEuropa have compiled a comparative study of energy communities, examining concepts, solutions and business models in both countries and showcasing best practice examples.

The study analyses how energy communities can promote the energy transition and independence from fossil fuels, reduce energy consumption, and improve local participation.

Poland has considerable potential for energy communities due to its large number of private PV systems. Meanwhile, in Germany, the introduction of digital and innovative technologies for energy generation and storage is breathing new life into existing concepts. However, both countries face obstacles, including a lack of financial support, gaps in legislation, and administrative and technical issues, such as inadequate digital infrastructure. The study uses indicators to demonstrate how public actors can guide and plan the strategic development of energy communities.
