Implementing the energy transition together
Cross-border energy region
Borders should not be an obstacle to cooperation between neighbouring municipalities. Border regions are seen as laboratories for European cooperation. Together with stakeholders from the border region and companies from both countries, the possibilities of establishing a joint German-Polish energy region in the border area are being explored.
The cross-border implementation of the energy transition can bring great benefits to the municipalities in the border region. Therefore, based on the study of best practice examples of energy communities, the possibility of a cross-border energy region will be explored, bringing together municipalities, companies and citizens on both sides of the border in an energy community.
Initially, discussions will be held with local stakeholders and opportunities for fruitful cooperation will be explored. Based on this, a concept for the realisation of a cross-border energy region will be developed.
A cross-border energy region between Poland and Germany can become a model for increased cross-border cooperation in the energy sector in the EU.
