What is biomethane?

Biomethane (also called bio natural gas or bio-CNG) is a renewable energy source that is produced by processing biogas. Biogas is produced in biogas plants through the fermentation of organic materials such as manure, organic waste or energy crops. To produce biomethane, the raw biogas is cleaned of CO₂ and other undesirable gases to produce a methane-rich gas that is similar in composition to natural gas.
