Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ)

The German Biomass Research Center (DBFZ) is an interdisciplinary research institute that deals with technical, economic and ecological issues relating to the use of biomass as an energy source, both in theory and in practice. The DBFZ currently has more than 200 employees. In addition to feasibility studies, expert reports and appraisals, technology assessments, scenario analyses, potential analyses, life cycle assessments and modeling and simulations, the work mainly involves experimental studies on a laboratory, pilot plant, pilot and demonstration scale. The DBFZ carries out comprehensive projects in the areas of bioenergy production and the utilization of residual materials and waste. Publicly and privately funded research projects, assessments, potential analyses and feasibility studies are carried out, particularly with regard to the provision of biomethane. Energy suppliers and industrial companies as well as public authorities are advised on a national and international level.
