We are the Deutsche Energie-Agentur – the German Energy Agency

dena is Germany’s centre of expertise for energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and intelligent energy systems. As the "Agency for the Applied Energy Transition" we contribute to the attainment of energy and climate policy objectives.

We develop solutions and put them into practice, both nationally and internationally. In order to achieve this, we bring together partners from politics and industry across all sectors - with an enthusiasm for one of the most exciting challenges of our time.

Mission & goals

We focus our efforts on the building, power and transport consumption sectors, as well as on issues relating to energy generation, storage, networking, and digitalisation. We realise pilot projects, advise politicians, manufacturers and service providers, qualify multipliers, inform consumers, build networks, encourage international exchanges and develop future scenarios.

To do so, dena primarily focuses on market instruments and innovative business models. And we view the energy system as a whole, because it is becoming increasingly vital to link the many different parts of the world of energy to each other. dena’s shareholders are the Federal Republic of Germany and the KfW Group.

Andreas Kuhlmann

Andreas Kuhlmann has been dena's Chief Executive since July 2015. The graduate physicist previously held positions at the Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft, BDEW (German Association of Energy and Water Industries), the German Embassy in Stockholm, the European Parliament, the German Bundestag, and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Kristina Haverkamp

Kristina Haverkamp has been a Managing Director at dena since October 2015. Following various positions in the German Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Finance, the lawyer was, among other posts, in charge of the Department of Economics in the permanent representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the EU.

EU study on transparent price labelling of fuels at filling stations

The main objective of the study is to develop a method that increases price transparency for the consumer and, in this way, highlights any cost advantages of alternative fuels.

geea – “Allianz für Gebäude-Energie-Effizienz” (Alliance for Building Energy Efficiency)

The “Allianz für Gebäude-Energie-Effizienz” (geea) – “Alliance for Building Energy Efficiency” is a cross-sector consortium of leading enterprises and associations in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.

Energy Efficiency Platform Office

The Energy Efficiency Platform by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) brings together key stakeholders, to discuss and develop instruments and measures to increase energy efficiency in Germany.

Ideas competition of BMU

The competition “RE:frame energy efficiency. New ideas for climate-friendly buildings” is part of the climate protection action plan which sets out strategic goals and measures for achieving the energy policy goals by 2020.

Individual refurbishment roadmap for residential buildings

The individual refurbishment road map for residential buildings presents the coordinated steps of an energy-efficient refurbishment process. Together with consortium partners, dena is developing an overall methodology for this purpose.

Industrialization of energy-efficient refurbishment of apartment buildings

In Germany, industrial approaches for building refurbishment are still mostly unknown. In order to develop the market for complete refurbishment from a single source, dena is launching the project “Serial refurbishment of apartment buildings”.

Campaign “zukunft haus” (“future house”).

What was originally conceived of as a portal for informing and motivating owners in 2003 has now developed into an extensive campaign and a mainstay for stakeholders from the industry and politicians, as well as for the press.

Energy Efficiency Networks

In the context of the Campaign, the German Federal Government has agreed with 22 associations and organisations to establish around 500 new energy efficiency networks by end of 2020.

Flagships for waste heat

The project "Flagships of Energy-Efficient Waste Heat Use" intends to make visible the significant energy-efficiency potential through the avoidance and utilisation of waste heat — thereby motivating companies in all industries to tap into this potential.

LNG study

With the English and German study, dena summarised the current developmental status of LNG in heavy goods traffic, and illustrated the challenges as well as necessary measures for a ramp up of the fuel on the German market. The study is the starting point for the LNG task force as a joint development platform for LNG in road traffic.
