Fraunhofer-Institut für Energiewirtschaft und Energiesystemtechnik IEE

The Bioenergy Systems Engineering department at Fraunhofer IEE conducts research in the field of integrating bioenergy plants into energy supply structures. The focus is on the systems engineering of biogas plants, biogas upgrading technologies and power-to-gas. The main activities are the development of technologies, components and concepts for demand-oriented energy supply, processing and feed-in of renewable gases and PtG technologies for customers from the energy sector and industry.

The department operates a test center at the Hessian Biogas Research Center (HBFZ) with a large-scale research biogas plant (900 m3), 170 laboratory fermenters, conversion units, silage bays and manure supply. We offer consulting services, expert opinions and studies for municipal utilities, companies and politicians with a focus on biogas upgrading, demand-oriented energy supply and PtG.
