Business cases for electrified district heating systems
While most operators and economists are aware that the electrification of heating networks represents the most cost-effective path to decarbonisation, there are still few electricity-market-optimised heat generators in use in Germany. A look at Denmark shows that integration with the electricity market is already a key component in the planning and operation of heating networks. It delivers significant cost benefits for operations and results in lower heating prices. Specific case studies from Denmark, as well as pioneering projects in German cities, demonstrate how operation can be optimised for the electricity market. Many interesting insights are guaranteed!
