Making renewable energy sources successful

Germany is a role model in the area of renewable energy sources. dena supports the actors in technology transfer, in the creation of suitable frameworks and in cultivating international

markets. In Germany and elsewhere, dena experts bring dynamism to the process by providing competent political advice and comprehensive support to companies as they expand into foreign markets.

Shaping the continued expansion

Renewable energies

A new phase in the energy transition has begun in Germany. The focus now is increasingly on linking the energy systems. This also means transferring knowledge and technology to international partners.

Expanding the use of renewable energies is among the supporting pillars in the energy transition. This project is now at an advanced stage. The share of renewables, especially in electricity consumption, is rising from year to year. Interested parties will find detailed information in this respect on the relevant pages of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) website . Redesigning the energy system with due consideration of the various interdependencies will be the principal task for the future. The main focus will be on developing robust business models and creating suitable framework conditions.

Competent political consultancy in Germany and abroad

dena supports actors in business and politics in the continued, successful expansion of market and system integration for renewable energy sources. The specialist teams at dena advocate the development of new markets and provide competent advice to decision-makers. dena remains in close dialogue with actors within German industry. In the Biogas Partners project, for instance, dena brings together 50 senior figures from the entire value chain of biogas feed-in and use to support them in market cultivation and communication with politicians and the general public. These actors promote know-how and technology transfer on an international stage, allowing other nations to benefit from Germany’s positive experience too, for instance in the design of its own political and economic framework. Together with Edelman.ergo, dena is a partner to BMWi in communicating the German energy transition to the world. The two agencies' tasks include developing a comprehensive international communications strategy and looking after foreign delegations.

Market development and studies

The German renewable energy industry benefits from dena’s expertise and networking, for instance in the definition and establishment of markets and the identification of new technologies. The dena market analysis provides a summarised appraisal of twelve technologies in the electricity and heat markets in a global comparison. These studies, as does the Biomethane Industry Barometer, help decision-makers in business and politics plan their next steps. Moreover, dena accompanies German companies in the cultivation of (new) renewable energy markets abroad. The instruments designed to promote exports include the dena-supported “Energy Export Initiative” by BMWK.

Our projects

Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD)

The BETD is organised by invitation of the German Federal Government in collaboration with the German Renewable Energy Federation (Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie, BEE), the German Solar Association (Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft, BSW-Solar), the German Energy Agency (Deutsche Energie-Agentur, dena) and eclareon.

Overview

  • Project start: 2015
  • Project objective: The BETD strengthens the international exchange of experience on the transformation of energy systems.
  • Project partners: German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar), German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) and eclareon GmbH

biogaspartner – the Biogas Feed-in Platform

Joint biogas feed-in. Under this motto, dena developed the project "biogaspartner – the Biogas Feed-in Platform" in collaboration with partners.

Overview

  • Project start: In 2007
  • Industry goal: Biogas feed-in into natural gas network as a fixed component of the energy mix.
  • Regulatory framework: Created via the implementation of the  integrated energy and climate programme of the Federal Government
  • Cooperation: Sector-specific know-how for the full development of potential

German Biogas Register

The German Biogas Register is a platform for the standardised and simple documentation of verification records for biogas quantities and qualities in the natural gas network.

Overview

  • Project start: 2010
  • Partners: 14 leading companies from the biogas and energy industries
  • dena operates the German Biogas Register as the registrar
