Electricity-based renewable fuels (powerfuels) can make a major contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from aviation. The position paper of the Global Alliance Powerfuels outlines the challenges for climate protection in aviation, compares powerfuels with other sustainable fuels, analyses the potential cost development and gives recommendations on how the market for powerfuels in aviation can be further developed.
In the beginning, the goal should be to decide on a worldwide quota of at least 2 percent for the blending of powerfuels. Individual states and regions should also take action to accelerate development, for example through their own quota regulations and incentive programmes for airlines, airports and fuel producers.
