For the tenth time, the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency – is inviting applications for the Europe-wide competition, ‘Biogas Partnership of the Year’. The search is on for participants whose business models, services and products provide the biomethane market with fresh stimulus, and thereby promote the energy transition. Applications can be submitted until 30 September.

The competition’s focus is on innovation in the production and use of biomethane, as well as on the integration of biomethane into the energy system. The jury will consist of representatives from ministries, companies, professional associations and research institutes.

Application documents and further information on the competition

The award ceremony will take place during dena’s annual biogaspartner conference on 7 December in Berlin. The slogan for this year’s conference is ‘We need a strategy!’. The role of biogas in transport and heating transition will be among the issues up for discussion, as will the future of biogas after the discontinuation of remunerations under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
Since 2008, dena has presented awards to no fewer than 26 prize winners of the Biogas Partnership Competition. Last year, the prize went to fjuhlster for its project, ‘Car-Sharing for Energy Transitioners’. In its car-sharing pool, the start-up from Hamburg intends to only offer vehicles running on one hundred percent biomethane that is produced from residual materials and waste products, or from surplus green electricity.
