Social acceptance of wind energy is on the rise: interactive tool also available in German

The interactive online tool, ‘WE Engage’, developed by dena and other project partners as part of the EU’s ‘WISE Power’ project, is now also available in German and Croatian.

The interactive online tool, ‘WE Engage’, developed by dena and other project partners as part of the EU’s ‘WISE Power’ project, is now also available in German and Croatian.

It has a variety of applications, and supports those in the wind energy industry in planning and implementing measures to increase the social acceptance of their projects. The information is designed to be target group-specific for all project stages. For individual measures there are estimates of the time and costs required, to enable better planning of user-specific strategies. The tool also contains an overview of the respective legal frameworks in each of the WISE Power project countries.

The German version of the tool is available at www.we-engage.eu and offers the user support with questions such as: How can the most effective measures be found for individual needs, and how can they be applied to individual projects? What is the best way of increasing the acceptance of wind energy among the population, and how can holistic plans for the involvement of residents and local communities in wind energy projects be implemented?

The WISE Power project

The WISE Power project was funded under the umbrella of the European Union’s Intelligent Energy Europe programme, and implemented from May 2014 to October 2016. The aim of the project was to increase the social acceptance of onshore wind energy projects, and thereby improve their planning security. Besides dena, the members of the project consortium included regional and municipal planning authorities, political decision-makers, representatives from the renewable energy industry, an international organisation and a leading research institute.
