In running the ‘2016 Biogas Partnership Competition’, the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena), German Energy Agency, is looking for participants from across Europe to provide new stimulus to the biomethane market through their products, services and business models. The deadline for applications is 30 September.
The competition’s focus is on innovation in the generation and use of biomethane, and also on the integration of biomethane into the energy system. A prerequisite is that the project significantly supports the market development of biomethane and is also transferrable to other countries and markets.
The competition’s jury comprises representatives from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, The European Biogas Association, the companies erdgas schwaben and Volkswagen, the research institutes Fraunhofer IWES (Institute of Wind Energy and Energy Systems Technology) and Fraunhofer UMSICHT (Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology), and the German Biomass Research Centre.
The awards ceremony will take place on 1 December 2016 during the biogaspartner project’s annual biogas feed-in conference in Berlin. The conference is the traditional highlight of the year in the biomethane industry. The main topic of this year’s conference will be biomethane as a fuel.
Ever since 2008 dena has been running the Biogas Partnership Competition and awarding prizes to 25 pioneers in the biomethane market; for example, Viessmann’s new method of processing biogas in 2015, and Berliner Stadtreinigung’s waste fermentation plant in 2014.
