How can we improve energy efficiency? How should we build the energy systems of the future? How do we bring together people who will make the difference?
And how can we strengthen international cooperation? Our projects design energy for tomorrow’s world.
The energy transition calls for innovation and a fresh mindset. Our current level of energy consumption must be halved as quickly as possible. And it is imperative to satisfy this demand using regenerative energy sources that protect our climate and environment. The energy transition will be more successful if we use electricity, heat and fuel efficiently.
Tomorrow’s energy systems will have to overcome many and varied challenges. Production, distribution and consumption need to be linked intelligently in order to guarantee a constant supply of renewable energy.
The expansion of renewable energy has already made significant progress in Germany, especially in the electricity sector. Now the focus now is increasingly on linking the energy systems. Knowledge and technology transfer on an international level is important here.
The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue is organised by invitation of the German Federal Government in collaboration with the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency and eclareon.

Project objective: As a high-ranking conference, the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue strengthens the international exchange of experience on the sustainable transformation of energy systems.

dena is conducting research among a wide group of stakeholders into the need for integrated energy infrastructure planning that considers the whole system, and the added value it brings. The aim is to identify new processes that provide more space for innovation and system optimisation.

During the second phase of the energy transition, digitalisation will increasingly demand from all participants systematic action outside of defined structures, as well as needs-based solutions. This can only work if the actors think and act within a cross-sectoral framework. This approach will help develop new business ideas and marketable products.

The partner network currently comprises 29 companies and associations from the energy industry, building industry, IT and metrology, as well as technology manufacturers and consultants.
The aims of the platform: to bring together and network the key figures within a cross-sectoral framework; to provide expert support in the digitalisation of the energy world; to play a key role in shaping the terms of digitalisation; and to create awareness and acceptance in the general public.
EnerKI – Using artificial intelligence to optimise the energy system
The aim of the “EnerKI – Using artificial intelligence to optimise the energy system” project is to develop specific knowledge about the use of artificial intelligence in the energy system and make it available to businesses, experts and politicians.

EU Heroes is a European partnership project that identifies obstacles to the development of municipal solar PV projects and develops solutions.

FEBS – the specialist portal for energy-efficient construction and refurbishment
The FEBS specialist portal for energy-efficient construction and refurbishment offers a wide range of services for professionals in energy consulting, architecture, engineering and skilled trades who are active in the field of energy-efficient construction and refurbishment. At the request of the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA), dena is offering experts a complete package comprising web platform, publications and dialogue that aims to boost the quality of energy-efficient construction and refurbishment.

With the support of German distribution grid operators, dena has conducted a study to calculate the economic costs of a nationwide rollout of the Smart Meter technology, its direct benefit effects (grid benefits) and the regulatory framework requirements.
