Energy efficiency

The energy transition calls for innovation and a fresh mindset. Our current level of energy consumption must be halved as quickly as possible. And it is imperative to satisfy this demand using regenerative energy sources that protect our climate and environment. The energy transition will be more successful if we use electricity, heat and fuel efficiently.

Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD)

The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue is organised by invitation of the German Federal Government in collaboration with the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency and eclareon.

  • Project objective: As a high-ranking conference, the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue strengthens the international exchange of experience on the sustainable transformation of energy systems.

China: Energy Trends of the Future

dena identifies new trends and changes affecting the market environment and political conditions in the areas of climate protection and the energy transition in China. The project “China: Energy Trends of the Future” is conducting pioneering work for future bilateral cooperation between the BMWi and China.

dena Study Integrated Energy Transition

The goal of the Study is to make the expertise and requirements of the industry available to successfully design the second phase of the energy transition.

dena Grid Study III

At the request of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), dena is conducting research among a wide group of stakeholders into the need for integrated energy infrastructure planning that considers the whole system, and the added value it brings. The aim is to identify new processes that provide more space for innovation and system optimisation.

  • Eco-Cities in China

    dena plays a major role in Sino-German cooperation in the field of climate-friendly urban development. This cooperation centres on practical criteria relating to sustainable urban infrastructure, strategies and management instruments. Energy-efficiency technologies and services that have been tested in Germany are to be demonstrated, evaluated and further refined across 25 pilot cities in China.

    Energy-Efficient Municipalities in Russia

    dena has developed an energy and climate protection management system (ECM) with which municipalities can systematically and sustainably reduce their energy consumption. Following successful application in German and Chinese cities dena’s ECM will be implemented in Russian municipalities, taking into account specific local circumstances.

    • Adaptation of dena’s ECM instruments to the specific characteristics of Russian municipalities

    Energy-Efficient Building in China

    dena has been developing and implementing energy-efficient construction projects in China since 2006. Advanced technology and experience gathered in Germany are adapted and transferred to the conditions in the respective region, using experts on the ground. The aim is to improve the market conditions for energy efficiency technologies, impart knowledge and establish concepts suitable for mass marketing of energy efficiency in China.

    • First efficient house standard introduced in Hebei in 2015
    • Partners: Construction ministries of both countries, the Center of Science and Technology of Construction (CSTC), the  Chinese Society for Urban Studies (CSUS), and various provinces, specialist associations, and German and Chinese companies.

    Advising BMWi on energy policies

    Since 2016, dena has advised the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on matters of energy policies in its position as framework agreement partner. It provides the consultancy services as the principal contractor, cooperating in this capacity with 14 partners from business and science.

    EU HEROES

    EU Heroes is a European partnership project that identifies obstacles to the development of municipal solar PV projects and develops solutions.

    EU study on transparent price labelling of fuels at filling stations

    The main objective of the study is to develop a method that increases price transparency for the consumer and, in this way, highlights any cost advantages of alternative fuels.
