Energy efficiency

The energy transition calls for innovation and a fresh mindset. Our current level of energy consumption must be halved as quickly as possible. And it is imperative to satisfy this demand using regenerative energy sources that protect our climate and environment. The energy transition will be more successful if we use electricity, heat and fuel efficiently.

Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD)

The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue is organised by invitation of the German Federal Government in collaboration with the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency and eclareon.

  • Project term: 2015
  • Project objective: As a high-ranking conference, the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue strengthens the international exchange of experience on the sustainable transformation of energy systems.
  • Project partners: the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), eclareon GmbH

German-Belarusian Expert Council for Energy-Efficient Construction

The German-Belarusian Expert Council pursues the goal of compiling concrete suggestions for revising the framework conditions for energy-efficient construction and refurbishment in Belarus.

Overview

  • Project start: 2014
  • Expert group consisting of representatives from Belarusian standardisation and construction authorities as well as dena representatives
  • The goal: Compiling a technical code for building energy efficiency.

German-Turkish Energy Partnership

This project supports German-Turkish energy co-operation in the areas of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, energy infrastructure and linking sectors. Besides collaboration in working groups, it also involves the implementation of joint pilot projects, specialist workshops and delegation visits.

Digital Energy World

During the second phase of the energy transition, digitalisation will increasingly demand from all participants systematic action outside of defined structures, as well as needs-based solutions. This can only work if the actors think and act within a cross-sectoral framework. This approach will help develop new business ideas and marketable products.

  • Project start: January 2016
  • The partner network currently comprises 29 companies and associations from the energy industry, building industry, IT and metrology, as well as technology manufacturers and consultants.
  • The aims of the platform: to bring together and network the key figures within a cross-sectoral framework; to provide expert support in the digitalisation of the energy world; to play a key role in shaping the terms of digitalisation; and to create awareness and acceptance in the general public.

 

Eco-Cities in China

dena plays a major role in Sino-German cooperation in the field of climate-friendly urban development. This cooperation centres on practical criteria relating to sustainable urban infrastructure, strategies and management instruments. Energy-efficiency technologies and services that have been tested in Germany are to be demonstrated, evaluated and further refined across 25 pilot cities in China.

Energy-Efficient Municipalities in Russia

dena has developed an energy and climate protection management system (ECM) with which municipalities can systematically and sustainably reduce their energy consumption. Following successful application in German and Chinese cities dena’s ECM will be implemented in Russian municipalities, taking into account specific local circumstances.

  • Providing support and advice for the implementation of dena’s energy and climate protection management (dena ECM) in two Russian pilot municipalities
  • Adaptation of dena’s ECM instruments to the specific characteristics of Russian municipalities
  • Series of consultations for municipalities from two selected Russian regions
  • Providing support for selected implementation measures in two Russian pilot municipalities

Energy-Efficient Building in China

dena has been developing and implementing energy-efficient construction projects in China since 2006. Advanced technology and experience gathered in Germany are adapted and transferred to the conditions in the respective region, using experts on the ground. The aim is to improve the market conditions for energy efficiency technologies, impart knowledge and establish concepts suitable for mass marketing of energy efficiency in China.

  • First efficient house standard introduced in Hebei in 2015
  • Partners: Construction ministries of both countries, the Center of Science and Technology of Construction (CSTC), the  Chinese Society for Urban Studies (CSUS), and various provinces, specialist associations, and German and Chinese companies.

EnerKI – Using artificial intelligence to optimise the energy system

The aim of the “EnerKI – Using artificial intelligence to optimise the energy system” project is to develop specific knowledge about the use of artificial intelligence in the energy system and make it available to businesses, experts and politicians.

German-Ukrainian Efficient House Pilot Project

A building refurbishment project in Ukraine organised by dena, Initiative Wohnungswirtschaft Osteuropa, the East European Housing Industry Initiative, and Kompetenzzentrum Großsiedlungen e.V., Centre of Expertise for Large Housing Estates, has met with enthusiastic response in Ukraine. The focus here is on 20 pilot projects for the energy-efficient refurbishment of apartment buildings in Ukraine.

Smart Meter Study

With the support of German distribution grid operators, dena has conducted a study to calculate the economic costs of a nationwide rollout of the Smart Meter technology, its direct benefit effects (grid benefits) and the regulatory framework requirements.
