Energy efficiency

The energy transition calls for innovation and a fresh mindset. Our current level of energy consumption must be halved as quickly as possible. And it is imperative to satisfy this demand using regenerative energy sources that protect our climate and environment. The energy transition will be more successful if we use electricity, heat and fuel efficiently.

dena Study Integrated Energy Transition

The goal of the Study is to make the expertise and requirements of the industry available to successfully design the second phase of the energy transition.

Digital Energy World

During the second phase of the energy transition, digitalisation will increasingly demand from all participants systematic action outside of defined structures, as well as needs-based solutions. This can only work if the actors think and act within a cross-sectoral framework. This approach will help develop new business ideas and marketable products.

Overview

  • Project start: January 2016
  • The partner network currently comprises 29 companies and associations from the energy industry, building industry, IT and metrology, as well as technology manufacturers and consultants.
  • The aims of the platform: to bring together and network the key figures within a cross-sectoral framework; to provide expert support in the digitalisation of the energy world; to play a key role in shaping the terms of digitalisation; and to create awareness and acceptance in the general public.

 

Advising BMWi on energy policies

Since 2016, dena has advised the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on matters of energy policies in its position as framework agreement partner. It provides the consultancy services as the principal contractor, cooperating in this capacity with 14 partners from business and science.

EnerKI – Using artificial intelligence to optimise the energy system

The aim of the “EnerKI – Using artificial intelligence to optimise the energy system” project is to develop specific knowledge about the use of artificial intelligence in the energy system and make it available to businesses, experts and politicians.

EU study on transparent price labelling of fuels at filling stations

The main objective of the study is to develop a method that increases price transparency for the consumer and, in this way, highlights any cost advantages of alternative fuels.

LNG study

With the English and German study, dena summarised the current developmental status of LNG in heavy goods traffic, and illustrated the challenges as well as necessary measures for a ramp up of the fuel on the German market. The study is the starting point for the LNG task force as a joint development platform for LNG in road traffic.

Part of the European Energy Network EnR

dena is represented as the German member in the European network of national energy agencies EnR (European Energy Network), and contributes experiences and expertise from Germany.

  • EnR was founded in 1992.


Power to Gas Potentiality Atlas

Power to gas – i.e. the conversion of electricity into gas for further use or long-term storage — is one of the most promising technologies for the future.

Smart Meter Study

With the support of German distribution grid operators, dena has conducted a study to calculate the economic costs of a nationwide rollout of the Smart Meter technology, its direct benefit effects (grid benefits) and the regulatory framework requirements.

Start Up Energy Transition

In Start Up Energy Transition, dena is establishing a global platform for innovation in the energy transition.

Overview

  • dena launched the Start Up Energy Transition initiative in 2016
  • It is built on the three pillars of Award, Network and Tech Festival
  • 550 start-ups from 66 countries applied for the award in its first year
  • Following its relaunch in November 2017 at the COP23, start-ups are now invited to apply to the new round of the awards by 31 January
  • The award ceremony will take place during an evening event with BETD in April 2018
