Energy-efficient building in China

China’s energy requirements are increasing relentlessly, a fact which also applies to the building sector. dena supports investors and decision makers in the planning and construction of climate-friendly, low-energy buildings – protecting our climate and using energy efficiently.

Presentation of German experience in the field of energy efficiency for buildings

China has been experiencing a building boom with double-digit growth for years. The high speed at which construction is being carried out means that by the year 2015 half of all buildings in China will be less than 15 years old.
The energy properties of these new buildings are, however, rarely in line with European standards. Four times more energy is required per square meter of living area for heating and cooling in China than in Europe’s developed countries.

In view of the speed of growth and the low level of domestic energy reserves, there is an acute need for action. Energy efficiency must be taken into account at both the planning and construction stage, and the energy requirements of new buildings significantly reduced.

dena promotes energy efficiency in China primarily by means of a structured and high-quality transfer of knowledge in regional seminars and the "Handbook on energy-efficient building in China".

1. Handbook on energy-efficient building in China

The "Handbook on energy-efficient building in China" will discuss the most important measures required to make a new building efficient and will augment this with similar information for building refurbishment. The main topics will relate to economic feasibility and financing, the organizational and legal requirements for energy efficiency and the quality-conscious structural implementation of any measures.

The "Handbook on energy-efficient building in China" is being published by dena, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Buildings and Urban Development (BMVBS) and the Chinese Ministry of Construction (MOC).

Both the main section and the appendix to the handbook will describe quality products from German companies and their practical application.

The handbook is currently available only in Chinese language.

2. Seminars on the energy efficiency of buildings

The seminars will provide the Chinese participants with information on energy-efficient construction and the necessity of quality in planning, implementation and the choice of materials. They will also help to pave the way for business contacts between important Chinese decision makers and German providers of quality products and services in this field.

The seminars will be based on the "Handbook on energy-efficient building in China". They will be accompanied by an exhibition of products and services provided by the German companies involved.
