The Efficient House mark is a sure sign of energy efficiency.

Anyone buying, renting, refurbishing or building an apartment or house today would like to live in comfort with stable costs both now and in the future – as far as possible sheltered from the impact of future energy price rises. Many builders and potential tenants or buyers therefore now make low energy requirements a top priority when selecting a new home. In so doing, they are also making a valuable contribution to climate protection. A large number of refurbished and newly built houses with particularly low energy requirements can already be found throughout Germany. Manufacturers of prefabricated homes and building developers also offer such homes for sale. But how can we recognise an energy-efficient house? And how can we be sure that it really does use energy efficiently?

The dena Efficient House Quality Mark singles out homes with particularly low energy requirements. For this quality mark to be awarded, the building's particularly low energy requirements must be demonstrated in a quality-assured procedure developed by dena. So we can be quite certain that the Efficient House mark is a sure sign of energy efficiency.

For potential tenants and buyers

The dena Efficient House Quality Mark provides a reliable basis for choosing an energy-saving home. The quality mark makes these homes instantly identifiable. It is only awarded if the building's particularly low energy requirements have been demonstrated in a quality-assured procedure. Moreover, both refurbished and newly built homes must meet the same standards. When it comes to energy efficiency, it now makes no difference to potential tenants and buyers whether the home they are looking at is newly built or has been refurbished to the highest standards. In either case, its energy requirements will be low.

For builders and refurbishers

The dena Efficient House Quality Mark provides builders and refurbishers with reliable guidance. If a refurbished or newly built home is offered for sale with the Efficient House quality mark, the energy efficiency features must be guaranteed in the building contract and be confirmed after completion using dena's inspection procedure. Moreover, dena Efficient House Quality Mark goes hand in hand with KfW's "energy-efficient construction and refurbishment" programme which offers appropriate subsidies. KfW's standards are also known as Efficient House. The energy requirements applied to a house built to the 55, 70, 85 or 100 efficiency standard are identical to those applied by dena's standards.

For owners, developers, housing associations and specialists

Companies which build, sell, rent or refurbish efficient houses can also advertise the fact that their properties will be available with the dena Efficient House Quality Mark as long as they comply with dena's inspection procedure. As pioneers, they will be able to set the competitive standards. Architects, engineers, tradesmen and energy consultants registered to issue dena-approved Energy Performance Certificates can help owners have their properties awarded the Efficient House quality mark. The dena Efficient House Quality Mark will give them excellent reference projects and enable them to position themselves as competent Efficient House contacts in their region.
